Behold, one unique movie capture (none other in the world exists, You can’t hear my giving the command, as it’s 5 percent audio and 95 percent facial cue.):

Whawt ?

Yesterday I wrote a complaint about the irritating radio commercial from Yacht, where I explained that besides the obvious reasons, my main reason was how they made up their own pronunciation of their own freakin’ name. With the obvious English “a Randstad company” byline, they’re trying to emphasize an international image, but why the hell don’t you pronounce it in proper English ? (\’yät\ instead of \’yo:t\)
Now, I don’t mind a company making a fool out of itself, it’s just that now some kids might think they’ve learned a new word, and will be using the wrong pronunciation for the rest of their lives.

Here’s their response:

Geachte heer, mevrouw,

Gisteravond ontvingen wij uw e-mail.

If I were them (they even have a website since 1996), I would’ve sued Apple without a blink of an eye.

I don’t mind though, if you want this Android phone from me, your only chance is still to pry out of my rigor mortis cold dead hands.

Review: Inception

July 30th, 2010
movie logo

Pulling a Nolan. That’s what happened again. I means you leave the movie theater with your jaw slightly dropped. A pure genius of the silver screen, he captures the audience with inventive camera work and an amazing screenplay. What’s basically a simple concept, couldn’t be sold to a studio by anyone else, let alone result in a movie that’s so complex and intense. The first time, it was the simple concept of time, and the little fact of how memory works. This time we go inside the brain, which is a simple concept again, but he manages to add more layers, while making it a personal journey.
Resulting in a dramatic finale that takes almost half the movie, it still has you on the edge of your seat for every second. It runs 148 minutes, and we need every single minute of it to build it how it is. Sometimes the characters aren’t fleshed out that well because the story moves like a train, but it focuses enough on the main player (well played by Leonardo DiCrapio). And even if the concept escapes your brains (usually the guys), there’s enough budget for special effects and explosions, with a pounding soundtrack to boot. What more can you ask for ? 9.

Wrong mix

Tropicana also released a limited summer edition juice, in the flavor Orange/Watermelon. I like most fruit juices, as long as they taste sweet and fruity, but this particular mix, is quite ew eew eeew. It’s a watery non-sweet non-fruity stale drink. Maybe they used the wrong watermelons, or the choice of watermelon is to blame in the first place, in any case, avoid this at all cost.

To Yum or not to Yum

The Summer is upon us, and what better way to spend it stuffing your stomach full of new yummy goodness. Here are a few new things to try:

Lay’s Pepperoni Limited Edition:
pepperoni
I think this one is from the user suggested flavor contest. It’s a nice idea, the scent when opening the package and the first few bites do indeed remind of a shallow Pepperoni flavor, but ultimately, it just tastes some kinda salty. Not too special, so it’s okay it’s just a limited edition.

Lay’s Honey Mustard Limited Edition:
honeymustard
Another new flavor mix, and there’s a slight mustard hint in some bites. The honey part is harder to find. But even then, it’s not that great a mix, and tastes more like chemicals than real mustard. A big misser here.

Lay’s Sensations Mexican Peppers & Cream:
mexpepcream
Actually tastes likes normal Paprika. The flavor only comes up in some bites, but it’s nothing too special.

Magnum Essense:
magnumessence.jpg
Not sure if it’s really new, but it’s just an ice cream bar, with plain ol’ ice cream and an extra middle bar of chocolate. It doesn’t stack up to the Magnum Classic, as that has better chocolate and real vanilla ice cream.

Magnum Gold:
magnumgold
Not a gold medal winner, as the outside gold, is just white chocolate (not really chocolate to begin with, imho), and the inside is plain ice cream with only a bit of caramel swirls. It’s sweat, but it lacks depth.

Ola Cornetto Engima Chocolate:

What always seems an impossibility, Ola finally got the idea we’ve all been waiting for. Ice cream cone where the flavor goes all the inside and way down. This chocolate flavor though, it’s the sugar kinda, and not that chocolaty. The nuts on top aren’t crunchy either. It’s a miss here, can’t recommend it over a “normal” Cornetto.

enigma

Ola Cornetto Engima Raspberry:
Finally a winner, marred by the fact that the raspberry sauce is probably authentic, but too badly, not filtered. You will have to swallow the small raspberry pits all the way through. But the crunchy sweetness and full fruity flavor makes this one the addictive snack for this summer.

Review: Where the Wild Things Are

June 6th, 2010
movie logo

Have to put reviews from earlier this year, been too busy.

So here’s a real oldy, where the trailer points to a kiddy movie. Reviews made it seem like it could be a family flick, but the child’s imaginary world has no real deeper meaning and doesn’t really lead to anywhere. Themes and dialogue aren’t interesting, so basically, it’s a big downer.

Review: Iron Man 2

May 11th, 2010
movie logo

With so few reviews, you might actually think I’m not watching any movies anymore, but that’s actually not the case (just no time to put reviews up).
But this sequel delivered a proper ass-kicking, so it deserves one.
Jon Favreau directs his first sequel, and he delivers. Paired with a script from relative new comer Justin Theroux (though only as a writer, fresh off the Tropic Thunder fame), it’s a fast paced continuation taking place right after Tony Stark’s big reveal at the end of the Iron Man movie.
Characters get developed a bit more, as we get to see only narcissistic extravagant super hero face new problems, while Pepper Potts gets more important screen time. Also Favreau’s previous cameo (Happy Hogan) has been upgraded to a full entertaining background character.
While the villains are still two dimensional (still good roles for Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell), the story folds itself in a fairly predictable manner, but the same high quality smooth direction and special effects make for quite a few awe inspiring sequences.
While being the only superhero present during this summer box office would warrant a visit to the movie theater, the sheer fun experience makes it a no-brainer, this is the must-see for this early summer period.9-.

Strange day

Here I’m up all night waiting to see any planes coming in for a landing at Frankfurt Airport, on a normal Saturday morning. Where the hell are they ?

Frankfurt Airport

So after some more waiting, off to make some other pics.

Ugly

The blue balloon asks “Why not”. Well, how about “because it’s freakin’ ugly!”???

totally full

And then off to home with a car filled from bottom to top (extra passengers, extra luggage), as I didn’t expect to bring anything back (as it was supposed to be a normal drop-off).

So, next available seats back to Taipei, Saturday. Thank you Iceland !
