Useless but interesting…

Friday, August 29th, 2003

Search engines are quite interesting things, all have their own behavior, their own methods. A quick stroll through my web log showed the following links and results. You can test them out yourself, just use the link above it, and use the exact keywords as you see here (including the “‘s or -). As you can see, most people are let down if they finally arrive at my site, as I don’t host pictures or subtitles. Writing this story, actually will fuel the search engines to get me an even higher score now. Whud am I doing ? Paradooooox….

(note, ranks are subject to change daily, of course, as search engines are updated continuously)

Review: Basic

Friday, August 29th, 2003

With a strong cast, you don’t necessarily get a strong movie. While it starts out as a small mystery, it soon grows in to a story with more twists and turns than an average rollercoaster. In the end, it kinda blows out of hand, and it leaves your head buzzing with a story too elaborate to be believable (and that’s an understatement).6½.

Expensive thing going around this world…

Thursday, August 28th, 2003

As everybody knows by now, Ah-nuhld Schwarzenegger is running for governor of California. But even with his major star status, it doesn’t come cheaply. His campaign has been budgetted at a freakin’ $20 million. Of which he will use $5 million of his own pocket, the rest he will try to raise through other means (mostly fishing for donations from wealthy people). So, what would _you_ do with 20 million bucks. Run for governor or buy a house so you can quietly live the rest of your life ?

US Box Office

Monday, August 25th, 2003

A quiet week at the box office, yet blood kept flowing as Freddy and Jason slashed their way in to keep the nr. 1 spot with $13.5 million. Also still kicking in doors is S.W.A.T. at nr. 2 with $10.8 million. Freaky Friday and Open Range have to share the third spot with $9.4 million. The fifth place is for this weeks opener The Medallion (opens here 23 Oct), a Jackie Chan starrer that suffered some pretty bad reviews. A measly $8.2 million is a clear indication the standard Jackie Chan formula movie needs some tweaking.

Presents

Sunday, August 24th, 2003

Well, it’s a bit late, but I got the first load of birthday presents today. Only after I threatened with a lawsuit that is. 2 DVD’s, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Director’s Edition, and Star Trek: Nemesis. I expect another load of DVD’s in a few weeks.

Crazy stuff going around…

Sunday, August 24th, 2003

Excerpt from BBC News:
“Virus hits hospital systems – Staff at a Glasgow hospital worked round the clock to restore its computer systems after the network was struck by the Nachi worm….-….He praised all the staff who worked to get the problem fixed. “Our IT department were on it from about 1600 and worked right through the night to get essential systems back by 0730,” he said.”

Hahahhahaaa. The IT department had to work so hard because they DIDN’T DO their job in the first place (otherwise, the worm wouldn’t have gotten in, let alone wreck havoc). They should fix it even if they have to work 48 hours non-stop UNPAID, and then they should be fired. What would you do ?

Hot Chick Alert

Sunday, August 24th, 2003

Just finished watching Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, where this this lady appears in almost a flash. Her name is Krista Allen, and she seems to be making the jump from the TV to the silver screen quite well. After this year’s Anger Management, she still has a few films lined up. Check this link for more pictures.

Review: Jessica Simpson – In This Skin

Saturday, August 23rd, 2003

Starting the album with opener song “In This Skin”, the first impression is a slick well produced pop song. Then the first negative feeling creeps in, the vocals start off very nasal. A few minutes in, and you get the feeling it’s very much over-produced, your auditory senses overloaded with numerous sounds spit out from an expensive synthesizer. A few numbers ahead, and you’re faced with a few slow ballads, but the moans throughout the song won’t keep you from almost dozing off. With nothing to set her apart from any other artist, this pop certainly has no impact. The longevity for this album will be very short, apart from 1 or 2 songs.6-.

Been lazy for a week again. I know it looks like shit. The problem is, is it acceptable shit, or can laziness prevail in this case ? Please vote…

Review: The Dead Zone

Friday, August 22nd, 2003

Just finished watching the (2nd) season finale, and I can tell ya, it keeps getting better and better. There’s a back-story that deepens throughout the season, the stories are still sharp and there’s no sense of slowing down or repeating old stories yet. Always a new twist, with fresh points of view, the future still looks bright for this show. Can’t wait for season 3 (not announced yet by the USA Network though).

Biggest baddest worm …

Friday, August 22nd, 2003

Well, all the headlines are clear on one thing. The new Sobig.F worm/virus is the biggest baddest fast spreading one up until now.
The conclusion of every article however, is quite wrong. They keep saying how the code has been perfected since the Sobig.E variant. The true reason for the record spreading wave is that, while global warming increases the temperature, somehow the global average IQ is very much going down !
From France to Tokyo, it doesn’t matter what the native language is, the fall for the “re: Application” subject lines, or even the English slanged “Wicked screensaver!” fires a curiosity neuron in the brain. A mindless click on the attachment is inevitable.
My educated guess is that the global average IQ is down 20 points since Sobig.E. How much do you think ?

Review: The Quiet American

Thursday, August 21st, 2003

A name like Michael Caine should be able to carry a movie. Well, he does. In spite of this somewhat mellow novel adaptation, and a trailer that showed all the action there was, it was still acceptable as a movie. Clearly broken apart in pieces with a different focus and feeling, it does feel a bit disjointed, not helping to pull you emotionally into this movie. The get-to-know-the-characters part, the subdued love story, the action sequences, the thriller twist, all feel like seperate parts, and there’s no effort made to mix it, or deepen it.6½.
