Crash…

Thursday, July 31st, 2003

Okay, it’s official, I’m an accident magnet. Three time’s a charm. Yesterday, I was involved in the third car accident within roughly a year. And all three times, I was just the passenger. What I’ve learned from:

The first accident – at 50-60 km/u, the bang is still quite hard. A medium sized business car frontal crash will damage the frontside considerably and leakage of fluids will prevent you to continue driving. The other party did not give precedence, and was rewarded with a big dented left door. No airbag popping out.

The second accident – Old car rams left front corner of the car. The car was ugly dented, and some auxiliary reservoir was damaged, and had to be towed away. The rule is that people driving old cars DON’T care about their own or other’s safety, and they DON’T care about their own or other’s car anymore. And worst of all, the extra damage actually makes their already wrinkled car look better ! Again. No airbag.

The third accident – Frontal on a car stopping in front of us. Opel Vectra’s (the new style) will have only slight damage, because of a high and sturdy bumper. A SEAT Cordoba is less fortunate at 30-40 km/u, the front looks ugly (car is about 10 cm shorter now), but no vital machinery is hit. Airbags do not pop out at this speed either. After three times, you start to wonder.

Seat Korterdoba

So, seatbelts do work, as I’m physically not damaged in anyway (though the brains are still the biggest mystery in the world, particularly my set of brains)

All in all, the biggest advice won’t be to use the seatbelts, it’s better you experience it yourself. A big gaping hole in your skull says a whole lot more than just my words. Hahah.

Weird stuff in going around in this world…

Not only is it the first genetically engineered fish, it also glows green in the dark. The Taiwanese company who made it hoped to make millions with this useless fish, but first of all, it’s almost bankrupt, second, environmentalist are protesting to protect the earth’s ecosystem. Can you say it with me ? (B*ll$h1T)^2.

A rat brain in a petri dish in the US, and a robot arm with 3 pencils in Australia. Linked together, and you have instant art. A bit retarted art of some kind, at least. Again, can you say it with me ? (B*ll$h1T)^4.

US Box Office

Sunday, July 27th, 2003

It seems the kids decided the box office this weekend, with the 3rd installment of Spy Kids (subtitle 3-D: Game Over) opens at 32.5 million. The best opening yet for this series.
Pirates are also still in the business, another limited drop makes this third week run end on the second place at 22.4 million. Close behind is last weeks number one opener Bad Boys II. A foul mouth won’t get you anywhere, I guess.
A disappointing opener for Lara Croft’s search for the Cradle of Life finishes fourth with 21.8 million (opens here 7th Aug). If Jan de Bont really found the Cradle by now, he also must have found there wasn’t much money left in it. An more impressive opener is Seabiscuit (racehorse drama featuring Spidey star Tobey Maguire. Opens here 30th Oct), finishes fifth, with 21.4 million, as it opened in almost half as much cinemas as Lara did.

In a Galaxy Far Far Far away…

Saturday, July 26th, 2003

Everybody has probably seen or heard of the Star Wars Kid before, and even more probably, have giggled over his jedi like control over his sabre. First the bad news. He has suffered psychologial damage over this whole thing. He’s suing 4 students of his school who stole his tape from a locker, and put it on the internet for about 225.000 Can $. But there’s also positive news of course. Read more on waxy.org what they’ve done (that’s also the site where I first found the video). Pretty nice eh ?
So head over to petitiononline.com to get him in SWIII. I wuz nr. 24038.

Saturday, July 26th, 2003

Yesterday, the first in-vitro born human being turned 25. A bit like playing god, we’ve put about 1 million tube babies on the world since that day. This is still done using real eggs and sperm. However, the next step isn’t far away. Scientist are already developing a method using stemcells to produce the next super duper tube baby. Howzdat ?

No more Friends ?

Friday, July 25th, 2003

Yipz, it’s confirmed, there’s going to be a spin-off after the tenth and last season of Friends. It’s all on Matt LeBlanc’s shoulder now to carry “Joey” to the top regions of the Nielsen Ratings.

Personally, can I say, Frasier sucks ?? (Yes I can ! Spinned off Cheers). Also, 3 series from the Seinfeld cast BLOWED this year (though technically not spin-offs, they were definitely type casted).
Neupz, trust me on this one, comedy spin-offs don’t work (this is a warning for the plans to spin off Everybody Loves Raymond)

Hot Chicks Alert !!!

Friday, July 25th, 2003

Yupz, Terminator 3 had not 1, not 3, but TWO hot chicks. First of all, the beautifully tough and unwrinkable Kristinna Loken. This is her biggest movie to date, with not much acting involved. Doing a Celebrity Match revealed a 94% compatibility on the emotional level. That gives me a lot of hope.

Filling the gap with a lot of tears and crying is big-eyed, more experienced, actress Claire Danes. This time, I had a 97% emotional compatibility !!! I highly recommend seeing last year’s dark dramedy indy movie “Igby Goes Down” if you want to see some more of Claire.

So, I hereby formally invite BOTH girls to my house.

Movie Review: Terminator 3

Friday, July 25th, 2003

Like many, even James Cameron started out of the shadows of Ridley Scott’s sequels. He got to be not just pretty big, he got to be the biggest. Jonathan Mostow on the other hand, still has a lot to learn. After a few mediocre movies, he got to be the big guy, or so we thought. While managing to bring a decent movie, he steals a lot of shots that are trademarked James Cameron (including the foot scenes, cracking up a pair of sunglasses). The action special effects heavy scenes, is where he fails. Unable to create widescreen chase scenes, he falls back to the easier close up and cut fast method, heavily limiting the viewer’s experience. The legacy created by James Cameron certainly had a lot of depth going on, but again, this sequel lacks all that. No good backstory to fall back to, no character to focus on. It drifts inevitably to the end, with only a gut feeling of wanting to see the next Cameron actioner. Arnold manages to utter a few punchlines, and the paradox in time travel itself will linger on a bit. But not for too long.7-.

Hot Chick Alert

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2003

Try this lady. Only a few movies on her slate (biggest to date, Triple X and Daddy Day Care), with her looks and age, she could become the next big star. She could also visit my house in her spare time, of course.

For more, visit this site.site.

US Box Office

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2003

Finding Nemo (another late opener, 29th Nov.), the Pixar/Disney fishy 3D team-up is the first movie to break the 300 million barrier this year. Following closely with some 20 odd million minus is The Matrix Reloaded. And nr. 3 is the godlike blockbuster Bruce Almighty hanging around de 235 mill. region.

US Box Office

Monday, July 21st, 2003

With the foul mouthed cops, Bad Boys II (opens here late, 9th Oct.) takes the box office top space, taking in some 46 million bucks, a nice start for an R rated movie. With only a slight drop from last week, runner up is The Pirates of the Carribean, with some 33 mill. This makes producer Jerry Bruckheimer a really rich man, trust me on that one (producer of both movies). Finishing off, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen won’t let go of the nr. 3 spot. And finally, Terminator 3 will be terminated from the top 5 next week already.

Haute cuisine deserves haute neatness and tidiness.

The Spanish Salsa is nice, but the Latin Pepper ain’t a huge success, I can tell ya. The other flavors, you’ve tasted already by now, of course.
