Freaky stuff going around this world…

In Brazil, there was a jailbreak where 80 inmates fled, and still are on the loose. They dug a tunnel of 50 (!!!) metres in length, 1 meter wide, and they even included lighting in the process ! How long did it take, and how and WHERE in heaven’s name did they dump that much dirt ?
Also, a week earlier, a prison director was shot dead, after he tried to introduce stricter rules to improve security.
Makes you wonder, who’s keeping who under control.

Samuel L. Jackson starrer S.W.A.T. stormed in at nr. 1 with a favorable 37 million (opens here 4th Dec). Second opener was Disney’s Freak Friday (opens here 2nd Oct), a remake which originally starred a young Jodi Foster. This time Jamie Lee Curtis, as a mom in 1this mom-daughter reversal movie, hauls in some 22.3 million. Dropping an expected 55% is American Wedding with 15.1 million on the third spot. The pie must be getting dry. More ships are really needed to carry the extra 13.1 million for the Pirates, still number 4 in it’s 5th week. Seabiscuit show more strength than Lara Croft at number 5 with 11.9 million. And nowhere to be seen is last week opener Gigli starring real life couple Ben Affleck and Big Ass Lopez (that rhymez). This movie is this year’s biggest flop.

Time for a poll…
First download this 79 KB mp3. Listen to it, and then judge.
First is Lumidee – Never Leave You (Uh Ooh Uh Ooh) followed by Sean Paul – Get Busy and it ends with Wayne Wonder – No Letting Go.

What these so-called summer hits (and good lord, they are topping the charts indeed, have mercy on my soul, as there’s probably nothing on earth that irritates me more) have in common is:
a. Monotonous irritating vocals.
b. Irritating BEAT.
c. Even MORE irritating hand claps.
d. ALL THREE SONGS SHARE THE EXACT SAME BEAT TRACK !

So please vote, which of the three is the most irritating.

Download this 3.66 MB mpeg file. Watch it. Laugh out loud. And then remember, it’s the Asians again who make these kind of funny commercials.

Thanx to my forward-button-frenzy cousin.

Useless stuff goin’ around this world…

A team of scientists at the MIT has developed a robotic insect which walks on water. This is done by mimicking how a water strider (Gerridae) uses the surface tension and rapid rowing feet movement of propelling them forward. So now what ? We can build an army of them to what ? Transport grains of sand ? Say it with me… (B*ll$h1T)^2.

Review: Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life

August 8th, 2003
movie logo

The cradle is empty. Trust me on that one. Everything coming from Jan de Bont since 1996 has essentially been, nicely put, crap. One of course does not dare to be so harsh, but three strikes, and yerrrr out (this one with The Haunting, and Speed 2). Lara Croft still is the same one dimensional character, and the old and new characters surrounding her are half dimensional at best. Having a huge budget, somehow that must have disappeared somewhere else than the movie. There are second rank background replacements, running at a different framerate, besides the already choppy integration with the foreground. There are also the closed set action scenes that are too obviously set in a … well, closed set. And blue screen sequences have never been easier to spot. An uninteresting story with and some chases to yawn at, leaves you two hours shorter a life. A third part, with an even longer title, would be a mistake better buried deeper than the Cradle of Life itself.5+.

Still nuddin’…

First birthday present for today. 25 bucks from my best client. Actually, I just repaired his son’s laptop, for the second time (after I was asked to undo the first repair for some dark reason). After I checked the bills with my counterfeit detector, I accepted it.
I still expect a truckload of presents tho, so I’ll keep ya posted.

Today…

Well, the most interesting I could find what happened exactly on my birthday, is that Elton John featuring Kiki Dee topped the US Billboard with their luvly “Don’t Go Breaking my Heart” single.
So, here it is, from the One Night Only CD, download it, listen to, and think of me when you do.

On the chick side, the closest I could get was Charlize Theron. (starred most notably in The Yards, The Cider House Rules and The Astronaut’s Wife. Most recent release was The Italian Job (opens here 4th Sept)). She’s exactly one year older than me. More pictures here.

Still Hot…

August 6th, 2003
k logo

As my brains are still dysfunctional, I’ll talk about an official heatwave for now. Before you can declare it, the following criteria must be met: A series of five Summer days (above 25 C) of which at least three are Tropical (above 30C).

So, besides the usual discomfort, what else does it mean, as the extreme heat is covering whole Europe ?

  • Record temperatures in some countries (40+ C !!)
  • Heightened risk of forest fires, evident in France, Poland, Bosnia, Portugal and Spain. It also means it’s harder to fight.
  • At least 11 deaths in Portugal and Spain due to the fires. At least 13 due to the heat.
  • At least 5 deaths due to the heat in Germany.
  • In luxurious Italy, a power cut was imposed ! Everybody was probably using their air-co at max setting.
  • Speed limit restriction on the UK Railway, as the train tracks are on the verge of buckling in the heat.

So, if you’re huffing and puffing along, wanting to go home earlier from work, remember, _it’s not that bad_ !

    Hot

    August 5th, 2003
    k logo

Well, the sun has fried my set of brains. That means I’m not capable of putting anything creative here, so let me just talk about sweat for a while:

Human sweat consists of a mixture of fatty acids, ammonia and lactic acid.

Freakin’ mosquitoes can smell us from over hundred metres. Not only that, it can detect heat too. I sometimes sleep with open balcony doors, which means I basically have a big bullseye painted on my forehead.

Breathable fabric to make clothes have tiny holes about 700-800 times as big as our sweat molecule. As a result, the human sweat can easily penetrate the fabric and be released.

Excessive amounts of sweat and the salt contained in human sweat have been considered a major contributing factor to Dermatitis.

If this heat continues, I’ll write about the criteria needed before you have an official heat wave.

American Wedding, the third part of the raunchy teenster Pie movie series, led the box office with 34.3 million (opens here 18th Sept). This is the tenth sequel this summer already (2 Fast 2 Furious, Bad Boys II, Tomb Raider, Spy Kids, Legally Blonde, Terminator, Charlie’s Angels just to name a few), so people obviously aren’t tired yet. Spy Kids hang on the second place as young kids are still in for the weirdo green/red 3D glasses, while the parents take their medicine for their headache, worth 20.1 million. And proving really hard to kill are the Pirates on the third place with 19.1 million, totalling an amazing 210 million. How does that money ever fit in a standard pirate’s treasure chest ?

    Hot Chick Alert

    August 3rd, 2003

Yipz, one of those days where ya just hang around in front of the TV. “Inventing the Abotts” was on, about the Abott family with three daughers. First was Liv Tyler, especially graceful on a horseback in the upcoming ending of Lord of the Rings series. Second was Jennifer Connely, last seen besides the mean green Hulk. And last but not least, is the lesser known Joanna Going. Having no real blockbuster on her schedule, she’ll probably never have one, as she’s nearing the age limit to be considered a chick. More pics here.
