As my brains are still dysfunctional, I’ll talk about an official heatwave for now. Before you can declare it, the following criteria must be met: A series of five Summer days (above 25 C) of which at least three are Tropical (above 30C).
So, besides the usual discomfort, what else does it mean, as the extreme heat is covering whole Europe ?
Record temperatures in some countries (40+ C !!)
Heightened risk of forest fires, evident in France, Poland, Bosnia, Portugal and Spain. It also means it’s harder to fight.
At least 11 deaths in Portugal and Spain due to the fires. At least 13 due to the heat.
At least 5 deaths due to the heat in Germany.
In luxurious Italy, a power cut was imposed ! Everybody was probably using their air-co at max setting.
Speed limit restriction on the UK Railway, as the train tracks are on the verge of buckling in the heat.
So, if you’re huffing and puffing along, wanting to go home earlier from work, remember, _it’s not that bad_ !
