No, I’m not playing with these scale models, which can go up to 55 km/u. I’m really working hard. (Only 55 euro for the biggest version. See ? Still selling stuff whenever I can).

Big opener for the mildly criticised Ben Stiller- JenniferAniston team-up, Along Came Polly (opens here 8 Apr). $27.6 million for this week’s number one. Second was last week’s number one, Bif Fish, with $10.4 million. Third was for the premiere of motorcycle actioner Torque with $10.3 million. Number 4 is for the King, still barely touching the throne with his aging fingers, $10.2 this week brings the total to a massive $328.9 million, enough to buy yourself a whole Hobbit valley.

Strange ppl…

I dunno why, but my messy desk pic somehow got stolen, and that someone didn’t even bother to download it, so it still links to my site (that’s how I found out). Here’s the link.
Well, back to a big copyright print on the picture. Let’s see how far macro’s in Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro have evolved.

Review: Kurt Nilsen

January 18th, 2004
music logo

This year’s World Idol title went to Kurt Nilsen from Norway, finishing ahead of million selling US’ Kelly Clarkson and British Will Young. So what to do if this Norwegian album falls in your lap ? Well, try not to let his “A Beautiful Day” performance that won him the (pretty much meaningless) World Idol title (a one-time show to attract some extra money for the show’s creators) influence me. But, since his voice resembles U2’s Bono a lot, and he wrote a few songs that also resembles U2 older material too, I couldn’t help myself. The whole album falls between soft rock and easy listening, with only 2 or 3 songs I could use to persuade any random person. The up-tempo rhythm with simple lyrics alone is enough to satisfy the choice unconscience people. The more picky ones (like me) will find it too generic (especially since 2 of the 12 tracks are covers, Ordinary World and She’s So High, a step I wouldn’t recommend anyone winning any contest that started out with covers anyway). Nonetheless, no one can deny this album fits very well in the background of a store or office environment, or in a phone queue. For that alone, it deserve a grade somewhere around average.7-

Review: Michelle McNamus – All This Time

January 17th, 2004

Let’s see what all this fuss is all about. This year’s UK Idol winner, despite being a big-boned woman, shook up the charts by jumping to number one from nowhere. This got her a Guinness Book of Records entry with being the first Scottish lady doin’ that to the UK Charts.
But what about the music ? Well, not very distinct. A slick production with some bonus point for sing-along-ability. But that’s about everything I can say about it. Lyrics are pretty standard too. So standard actually, I can’t even tell if it’s personal or not. She must work pretty hard if she wanna stay in the game a bit longer.

Review: Underworld

A fair story, combined with some fair acting, directed in a fair way. Nothing spectacular, but the effects are fair. Besides, paying a few bucks to see Kate Beckinsale in a dark and tight leather clad during the whole movie IS pretty fair, right ? So, all in all, a fair grade.7-.

Review: The Last Samurai

January 14th, 2004
movie logo

Nothing but praise for another screenplay well done, by John Logan (following The Gladiator and Star Trek: Nemesis). Director Edward Zwick has always been capable of shooting strong intense dramas, and it shows again. The action scenes are very well directed too. The battles are not overly bloody but still brutal, the faint hearted should be wary. The story is a bit simple and focuses more on the characters. Tom Cruise of course, delivers another top-notch performance. Samurai customs and beliefs are shown but kept to a minimum, though the essence becomes quite clear after a while. To finish the movie, the score is not overly melodious or themic, but lingers in the background. Combined with the romantic and panoramic shots it does a nice job to complete the movie.8½.

Subject: Voorbereiding he ?

Geachte RET,
Anderen moeten verder, ongeveer 45 a 50 minuten.

Mvg, KaNam Ung.

During his satallite acceptance speech (BFC Critic’s Choice Award, 4 nods for picture, acting ensemble, director and composer), Peter Jackson said on his current job, editing The Return of the King for DVD, “For those of you who thought Return of the King was too short, I’m giving you more”.
Okay, that still leaves the rumors of a 4, 5 and 6 hour result wide open. Way to go, dude.

A slow week: Finally, the King has been dethroned by a Big Fish, a Tim Burton directed fantasy, $14.5 against $14.1 million. Cheaper by the Dozen has a great run too, third place with $12 million, and a total of $101.4 after three weeks.
