Review: Whale Rider on 16-07-2003

A touching family drama story, with a new talented young girl (Keisha Castle-Hughes) giving a wonderful performance. It gives insight in some (Indian ? Aboriginal ?) family matters and traditions, with some dramatic twists here and there. It has a few touching moments and even has a bit of humor. While it’s pretty predictable from start till end, it still manages not to get you bored.7½.

Freakin’ HOT !!!

Tuesday, July 15th, 2003

I noticed the coolest place in my house is the TOILET !!! Since it barely measures 1 meter by 1 meter, and has no internet access (yet), I decided to stay in the living room.

Don’t be shy to donate an Air-co unit, preferably THIS summer !

Donate a 10 point vote !!!

Tuesday, July 15th, 2003

Okay, so I finally built my own server, put every piece of free software I could find on it, to get this blog up and running, and what do I end up with ? A totally uninteractive crowd who probably don’t know the Comment link is to add an actually comment to it.
So, in an act to hopefully attract more interactive intelligent people, I signed up with BNN’s Blog40. Click on the link below to vote a tenner, coz if I find out you voted anything below a 10, I’m gonna ban your IP number.

Vote for me here! blog40

US Box Office

Monday, July 14th, 2003

Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl (Opens here 14th Aug) crushed the box office with some 70 odd million dollars. Johnny Depp must be a convincing pirate. 2nd was Sean Connery starrer The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (opens here 11th Sep) with some 30 million bucks. 3rd place was for Terminator 3’s second week run with an acceptable 55% drop. (Opens here next week).

Review: Delta Goodrem – Innocent Eyes

Sunday, July 13th, 2003

Like many Aussie singers spinning of the soap series Neighbours, she’s the most current one. And a mighty good one at that. The first impression of this mostly poppy tunes album are clear from the word go. Her voice is soft yet clear and powerful, with the occasional lashes to the higher notes. Added to that good vibrato for the more ballad like songs makes her voice more dynamic, then, dare I say, Natalie Imbruglia ? The songs are all kinda poppy but enough variaties keep the whole album swinging.8.

While she’s currently battling the Hodgkins disease (a form of lymphatic cancer), she probably has no time to promote her album. So here’s another song to download (5.7 MB). If you like it, really, just buy it.

Review: Michelle Branch – Hotel Paper

Sunday, July 13th, 2003

Having only heard a couple of the hits she’s made the past two years, listening to a whole album isn’t quite an eye-opener. Filled with the kind of songs you’d expect from her, it has a really laid-back rock kinda feeling. There are a few catchy tunes, and there are some I can’t get used to (which probably end up in the recycle bin). For a picky person like me, I’d stamp an average rating on this album, but many previous fans of her albums will probably like it very much.7-.

Review: Hulk on 10-07-2003

Friday, July 11th, 2003

Again, Ang Lee proves himself to be a truly wonderful director with a strong first Hulk movie of hopefully whole series. People wanting to see an action movie will be sorely disappointed, because this is an overall good movie. While the first few minutes may seem to have some forced dialogue, Ang builds the characters nicely while mixing in another few elements to give the whole movie a fuller body then Hulk’s torso. The first half of the movie has a bottle up feeling to it, which probably was the intention. The second half will show the characters at full intensity. Combined with some magnificent special effects, the Hulk is here to stay.8-.
