As my brains are still dysfunctional, I’ll talk about an official heatwave for now. Before you can declare it, the following criteria must be met: A series of five Summer days (above 25 C) of which at least three are Tropical (above 30C).<\/p>\n

So, besides the usual discomfort, what else does it mean, as the extreme heat is covering whole Europe ?<\/p>\n

  • Record temperatures in some countries (40+ C !!)\n
  • Heightened risk of forest fires, evident in France, Poland, Bosnia, Portugal and Spain. It also means it’s harder to fight.\n
  • At least 11 deaths in Portugal and Spain due to the fires. At least 13 due to the heat.\n
  • At least 5 deaths due to the heat in Germany.\n
  • In luxurious Italy, a power cut was imposed ! Everybody was probably using their air-co at max setting.\n
  • Speed limit restriction on the UK Railway, as the train tracks are on the verge of buckling in the heat.\n
